Questions about yay.gift

Here are the questions organizers, draw participants and wishlist guests ask most often. Short answers, no asterisks and no fine print.

General

Do I need to install an app?

No. yay.gift works in the browser on your phone and computer. iOS and Android apps are coming soon.

Do I need an account?

Only the organizer creates an account, by signing in with a 6-digit code from email, with no password. Participants and guests join from a link with a name and email.

Does yay.gift handle payments?

No. For a group gift, the app shows the bank transfer or BLIK details of the person buying the gift and helps confirm payments.

Which languages does yay.gift support?

English and Polish. Everyone sees the app in their own language, and messages arrive in the recipient's language.

Secret Spin

Can the organizer see who drew whom?

If they take part in the draw, the matches are hidden from them. Revealing them is a deliberate decision and is recorded in the history.

Who sets the gift amount?

Everyone suggests an amount within the organizer's range and the group gets the median of all suggestions.

How many people can take part in a draw?

At least 3. With personal links you can add up to 1000 people in one draw, up to 300 at once from a CSV file.

When does the draw start?

At the date and time you set, once the threshold is met: everyone, part of the group (e.g. 80%) or no waiting. You can also start it manually.

What is the riddle?

The recipient can write a hidden wish. The buyer never sees it - AI turns it into a riddle and the buyer gets three guesses, rated cold, warm, hot or got it.

Will the recipient find out who bought their gift?

Only if the organizer turns this option on and the buyer agrees. Then the recipient can reveal the buyer's name. Otherwise the buyer stays anonymous.

Is a request to change the amount anonymous?

Yes. The organizer sees that someone asked to change an amount, but not who. In a small group they may guess from the timing of the request, so think the amount over before you save it. A saved amount can be changed only once, and only with the organizer's approval.

Wishlist and group gifts

How do I reserve a gift from a list?

Open the organizer's link, enter a name and email, type in the code and tap an item. You can release the reservation later.

Can two people buy the same thing?

No. Reservations are counted on the server, so only one person gets the last piece and the other sees right away that it's gone.

How does a group gift work?

Guests join a group gift on a pricier item, the buyer closes the group and gives a bank account or BLIK number, and yay.gift sends everyone their share. The buyer confirms the payments.

Is the bank account number for a group gift safe?

The bank account and BLIK number are encrypted, visible only to people in the group, and deleted after settlement.
